La Foudre
Paintings and Poetry by Swan Kiss
June 30, 2024 — August 25, 2024
La Foudre is a group show of new paintings and poetry by Montreal-based art collective Swan Kiss in collaboration with Westlab + Gallery. French for lightening strike, “La Foudre” is a historical name for the Tower in French and Belgian Tarot decks. Representing sudden change, upheaval, chaos, the Tower also portends revelation and reawakening. Swan Kiss paints and writes this moment of transformation to envision the simultaneous implosions and explosions that can consequentially unfold. In the crumbling, amidst the ash, fire becomes a threshold in various contexts: within ecology, the domestic realm, and personal narratives.

Swan Kiss is formed by visual artists Chloe Majenta, Fiona Nguyen, Sarah Piché, and writer Mariana Jiménez Arango. Signifying the instant where two swans become one, Swan Kiss is the transformation of a moment into the shape of a heart. The collective formed in 2024 after two years of collaboration and cohabitation in homes and art studios around Montreal.
